General information

Occasional clogs within the sink, tub, or shower drains are a fact of life. They usually caused by localized clogs within the drain trap or branch drain for one fixture. However, if you've got several fixtures that are draining slowly or not draining in the least, the matter could also be within the main drain or sewer main in your home. Most clogs ultimately get cleared with a correct plunging, but you'll first try a simple hot-water trick before coitus interrupts your plunger. On the opposite hand, if the clog proves to be an excessive amount of plunging, you'll snake the drain with a drain snake or auger. Most clogs in sinks and tubs are thanks to a mixture of hair, grease, soap residue, and tepid water that are trapped within the drain trap right below the drain opening. If you've got metal pipes, you'll attempt to loosen the clog with hot water—very hot. Pouring a pot of very hot boiling water directly down the drain into the trap may dissolve the clog very fast, especially if it consists of soap scum or grease stuck in it. Hot water won't do the trick so it's to be boiling water. Tips aren't getting any easier than this. Put the kettle on (or use the stove or microwave if you do not own a kettle) and boil up the maximum amount of water because it will hold. Now pour it slowly down the drain in two to 3 stages, allowing the recent water to figure for several seconds in between each pour.
